Newton's Michl Captures Several Millikin Track Wins

DECATUR -- The Millikin track and field team performed well at its own Big Blue Invite April 18 in Decatur, Illinois. The Millikin women finished in first place with the Big Blue men coming home in second.

Millikin’s Jasharra Clark (Lombard, Glenbard West H.S.) won the 200 meters in 25.84 seconds. The Big Blue’s Jamie Michl (Newton, H.S.) won the 800 meters in 2:27.66 and was fourth in the 1500 meters at 5:17.44.

Millikin’s Michaela Ponstein (Oswego, H.S.) won the 400 meter hurdles in 1:07.38. Ponstein, Clark, Uriah Walker (Lansing, Thornton Fractional South H.S.) and Michl teamed to win the 1600 relay in 4:03.46, which was fourth fastest in school history. The group was second in the 400 relay in 50.47 seconds.

Big Blue freshman Sami Battle (Odell, Pontiac H.S.) won the triple jump at 9.94 meters (32-7.50) and was fifth in the long jump at 4.55 meters (14-11.25).

The Millikin throwers were strong winning three events. Senior Amanda Morgan (Flossmoor, Homewood Flossmoor H.S.) won the shot put at 11.41 meters (37-5.25) with Emma Hoyer (Champaign, University H.S.) finishing in third at 10.68 meters. Senior Emily Sawyer (Cerro Gordo, H.S.) won the discus with a toss of 38.45 meters (126-02) with Hoyer finishing in third at 36.26 meters.

Sawyer won the Hammer with a throw of 39.97 (131-02) with Morgan finishing in second at 32.83 meters.

In the men’s competition, Big Blue freshman Paul Selman (Glen Ellyn, Glenbard West H.S.) was a double event winner winning the 100 meters in 11.25 seconds and the 200 meters in 21.94 seconds.
