Area High School Athletes Set for State Girls Track Meets

The area will be well represented this weekend at the Class 1A and Class 2A State Girls Track Meets at O'Brien Stadium on the campus of Eastern Illinois University in Charleston.

The Class 1A preliminaries will be held Thursday while the Class 2A and 3A preliminaries will take place Friday. The finals will be held Saturday for all three classes.

Effingham St. Anthony's Anna Sophia Keller will be competing in the 1600 and 3200 where she has the No. 1 and No. 2 times in the state. Keller has the top time coming into the state meet in the 1600 at 5:08.31 minutes. The freshman has the second best time in the 3200 at 10:37.00. The best time was turned in by Kelsey Hildreth of Byron, a senior, in 10:32.02.

Newton's 800 relay team of McKendra Barthelme, Taylor Johnson, Madison Kinder and Hannah Litzelman have the second best time of 1:47.75 minutes. The best time was clocked by Aurora Christian in 1:45.78.

St. Anthony's Kristin Slaughter and Teutopolis' Rachel Westendorf are tied for the third best vault in the pole vault at 10 feet, 6 inches. Newton's McKendra Barthelme is tied for fourth in the long jump with a leap of 17 feet, 3/4 inches.
