EHS Takes Girls Meet, T-town Claims Boys Contest in Track

Effingham High School claimed the girls track meet Tuesday evneing with 87 points followed by Newton 65, Teutopolis 60 and Effingham St. Anthony 46.

Jantzen Michael was a winner in the discus with a throw of 92 feet 8 inches. Jacklyn Steppe claimed the high jump at 4 feet, 10 inches. Shayna Phillips ran the 800 in 2:44.60 minutes. Jenna Bingham won the 1600 in 5:53.71 minutes. The Hearts also claimed the 3200 relay in 10:41.36.Team members were Bingham, Kelly Keitel, Bethany Donaldson and Phillips.

Newton's Barthelme was a winner in three events. Barthelme won the 100 hurdles in 16.3 seconds, the 300 hurdles in 49.90. She also captured the long jump at 17 feet, 4 1/2 inches. Litzelman was a two event winner claiming the 100 in 13.13 seconds and the 200 in 26.55.

The Eagles also nabbed the 400 relays in 53.76 and the 800 in 1:51.47.

In the boys meet, Teutopolis was the team winner with 120 points followed by Effingham 88, Newton 46 and St. Anthony 23.

The Wooden Shoes had eight first place finishes. Blievernicht won the 110 hurdles in 16.62 seconds and claimed the 400 in 51.31. Probst claimed the 3200 in 10:52.52. Goedde captured the 100 in 25.08. Drees won the 300 hurdles in 41.68. McWhorter captured the pole vault at 13 feet while Hunt won the long jump with a leap of 20-11 and the triple jump went to Heuerman at 40-8.

Gardewine picked up two victories for St. Anthony. He won the 1600 with a time of 4:54.22 minutes and claimed the high jump with a leap of 5 feet, 10 inches.
