St. A Second, T-town Third In Tennis Invite

Effingham St. Anthony finished second at its own tennis invitational Saturday.
Winning the meet was Chicago Lab School 43 followed by St. Anthony 34, Teutopolis 26, Bloomington Central Catholic 21, Morton 20, Robinson 18, Newton 17, MFHS-LSA 11, Charleston 10, Robinson JV 6, Mount Zion 6, Effingham 5, Teutopolis JV 5, Effingham JV 2, Shelbyville 1 and St. Anthony JV 1.
Emma Baker of Chicago Lab captured the No. 1 singles with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Emilee Mossman of St. Anthony. Third place went to Jacelyn Street of Newton with a 6-2, 6-3 win over T-town's Diana Mossman.
In the No. 2 singles, Chicago Lab's Lilly Coe was a winner over St. Anthony's Catherine Willenborg, 6-2, 6-0. The third place contest went to Maggie Ames of BCC, 4-6, 6-0, 6-1 over Morton's Jackie Pfeifer.
In the No. 3 singles, St. Anthony's Caroline Deters claimed the championship by downing Chicago Lab's Adrienna Nehme, 6-3, 4-6, 6-3. The third place contest went to Morton's Ana Mueller over Robinson's Destanee Liston, 6-1, 6-1.
In the No. 1 doubles, Chicago Lab's Isabella Kellemeier and Emily Pak defeated St. Anthony's Allison Kowalke and Averee Green, 6-4, 6-2. The third place contest went to T-town's Alli Brumleve and Macy Probst, 6-1, 6-0.
In the No. 2 doubles, Chicago University's Macy Beal and Ananya Asthane won by beating T-town's Grace Hoene and Isabelle Hemmen, 6-1, 6-2. The third place match went to BCC's Bella Kiper-Bella Rohrig over Morton's Victoria Leman/Lucy Gardner, 6-2, 2-6, 9-7.

The Bulldogs claimed the top three singles by 6-0, 6-0 counts as Emilee Mossman, Catherine Willenborg and Averee Greene were winners. Carolyn Deters took the No. 4 spot, 6-1, 6-0 while Carolyn McDevitt won at No. 5, 6-2, 6-0. Allie Adams won the No. 6 spot, 6-4, 6-1.
In doubles play, Allison Kowalke and Greene combined to win, 6-0, 6-1. McDevitt amd Madelyn Smith took their match, 6-2, 6-2. Payton Sehy and Laura Schmidt were winners, 6-1, 7-6 (12).

Tennis phenom Coco Gauff continued her winning ways at the U.S. open Tuesday night by coming back to defeat Russia’s Anastasia Potapova in three sets.
Rafael Nadal and Simona Halep also won, while fourth-seeded Dominic Thiem was upset by 87th-ranked Italian Thomas Fabbiano.
