St. A, EHS Nab Tennis Wins, Mt. Zion Edges T-town

Effingham St. Anthony High School edged Flora 5-4 in tennis competition Thursday.
In singles play, Jenny Wolters downed her opponent at No. 1. Kelly Rentfrow won the No. 3 spot while Tierney Hammer took No. 4. Flora captured the other three spots and the two squads were tied at 3-3 after singles play.
In doubles action, St. Anthony won at No. 1 as Wolters and Anna Schutzbach went 7-5, 6-3. The Bulldogs' Rentfrow and Chloe Malone won at No. 3, 6-4, 7-5 to pull out the victory.

At Paris
Effingham picked up a 7-2 victory over Paris in Apollo Conference action. The Hearts took five of the six singles matches.
Winning were Emma Kull, Kyra Bannister, Megan Allen, Tori Sims and Ashley Workman. In doubles, the Hearts took the top spot as Kull and Bannister won 10-3 and No. 3 as Allen and Savannah Blake were winners 10-7.

At Mount Zion
Mount Zion edged Teutopolis 5-4 in action Thursday. T-town picked up two singles wins as Elena Breer won at No. 3, 6-4, 6-1 and Kara Schwinke claimed the No. 6 spot, 5-7, 6-1, 6-4.
T-town then took two of the three doubles wins. Allison Vogt and Breer combined at No. 1 to win 10-1 while Kaitlin Deters and Schwinke won 10-3.
The loss was the first of the season for the Shoes as they drop to 5-1.
In junior varsity action, T-town claimed a 5-1 win over Mount Zion to improve to 5-1.
