T-town Third at Mattoon Invite, EHS 12th; St. A Competes at Bloomington

MATTOON -- Teutopolis High School captured third place in the Mattoon Tennis Invitational Saturday while Effingham finished tied for 12th.

Mattoon won its own invitational with 42 points followed by Danville 35, Teutopolis 32, Morton 30, Mount Zion 27.5, Olney 22.5, Charleston 12, Newton 8.5, Shelbyville 6.5, Mattoon JV 5, Casey-Westfield 3, Effingham 2, Salem 2 and Paris 1.

Kaitlin Deters and Heather Dust captured second places in singles action for the Wooden Shoes. Elena Breer and Allison Vogt took third at No. 1 doubles while teammates Kara Schwinke and Ashley Hemmen also finished third in the No. 2 doubles.

Effingham St. Anthony finished either eighth or ninth out of 16 teams at the Bloomington Purple Tennis Invitational Saturday.

Belleville West won the tournament with 42 points followed by a three-way tie for second between Downers Grove South, Normal Community and Normal U-High with 23 each.
