T-town, St. Anthony Finish Among Top Teams At State Tennis Tourney

Teutopolis finished seventh as a team while Effingham St. Anthony captured 12th place out of 49 teams competing.

As reported after Thursday's opening round play, T-town's Abbie Lee competed in singles and had two wins but suffered two losses while Ella Wermert and Allie Ruholl also opened with a win, then lost, then claimed a second win before leaving further tourney play with their second loss.

St. Anthony's Julia Schultz competed in singles and fell in her two matches while teammates LIv Hoene and Nora Trupiano lost their opener, won in the first round of consolation then lost to leave the tournament.

But both T-town and St. Anthony had a doubles team that continued on.

T-town's Anna Probst and Adi Davidson won their first two rounds before suffering their first loss in Thursday play. The pair came back strong to take their next two victories in fourth and fifth rounds of consolation play. The pair won over Olivia Bradford and Ellie Schaffer of Metamora, 6-2, 6-1 then downed Anna Davis and Abigail Harms of Bethalto Civic Memorial 7-5, 6-3.

The duo then exited the tournament in the consolation quarterfinals with a loss to Mia Kinkelaar and Ellie Link of St. Anthony 6-0, 4-6, 10-6.

Kinkelaar and Link picked up their first loss against Isabela Ji and Sophia Holt of Chicago University, 6-0, 6-1. They came back to beat the T-town duo before falling in the consolation semifinals to Kennedi Taylor and Natalie Beck of Glen Carbon Father McGivney, 6-3, 6-1 to finish in sixth place.

Benet Academy won the team championship with 37 points followed in the top five by Hinsdale South 31, Dunlap 27, University High 24 and Marian 17. T-town tallied 11 points while St. Anthony scored eight.
