St. Anthony, T-town Doubles Team Still Alive At State Tennis Tourney

Effingham St. Anthony's Mia Kinkelaar and Ellie Link and Teutopolis' Anna Probst and Adi Davidson are still competing at the State Tennis Tournament after opening day action Thursday.

Kinkelaar and Link opened with a 6-2, 6-4 victory over Holland Martin and Adelia Bird of Mahomet-Seymour, 6-2, 6-4. The pair then downed Emma Davis and Abigail Harms of Bethalto Civic Memorial, 6-2, 6-4. In the third round, the duo won over Kennedi Taylor and Natalie Beck of Glen Carbon Father McGivney.

The pair will square off against Isabela Ji and Sophia Holt of Chicago University today in the quarterfinal round at Mount Prospect.

T-town's Probst and Davidson blanked their opponents Lucia Hassebrock and Catalina Mosquera of Springfield Sacred Heart-Griffin, 6-0, 6-0 in the opener. They came back to win over Melissa Hillman and Megan Hillman of Rockford Lutheran, 6-3, 6-1.

In the third round, Probst and Davidson fell to Lisle Benet Academy's Natalie Grover and Katie Jendra, 6-0, 6-3.

The Wooden Shoes pair will meet Olivia Bradford and Ellie Schaffer of Metamora today in the fourth round of consolation at Palatine High School. If they suffer a second loss, they will exit the tournament.

St. Anthony's Liv Hoene and Nora Trupiano lost in their opening round of play to Anna Houpt and Reese Rundle of Danville, 6-0, 6-1. But the Bulldogs duo came back with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Morgan Smith and Madeleine Smith of Richton Park Southland College Prep Charter. 

Hoene and Trupiano then suffered their second loss to exit the tourney. They fell to Katie Watts and Kacey Ruger of Troy Triad, 6-1, 6-1.

Julia Schultz, who was competing in singles action, lost her opener in a hard-fought battle to Zulee Moreland of Ottawa Township, 6-4, 1-6, 10-7. She came back only to fall to Athana Juculbe of Chicago Heights Marion, 7-5, 6-3 to exit the tourney.

T-town's Abbie Lee claimed two victories but also suffered two losses to leave further tournament play. Lee lost her opener to Anna Yu of Dunlap, 6-1, 6-1 but rallied to down Audra Luecke of Freeport, 6-0, 6-1. Lee then took her second win over Kiley King of Jerseyville Jersey, 6-4, 6-1. But in the third round of consolation, she fell to Eislee Moore of Carbondale, 6-3, 6-0.

Ella Wermert and Allie Ruholl won their opener in doubles over Kaitlyn Brown and Morgan Zanger of Quincy Notre Dame, 6-4, 6-4. The pair then dropped their next contest to Sophia Fleming and Josie Wojcikiewicz of Highland, 6-3, 6-1.

They fell into the second round of consolation where they defeated Kylee Halm and Izzy Pecchio of LaSalle-Peru, 6-1, 6-2. But the duo exited the tourney with a 6-2, 6-4 loss to Elana Religioso and Haley Reed of Mahomet-Seymour.
