Newton High School edged Effingham 5-4 in a girls tennis match Monday.

The Eagles picked up four of the six singles contests as Jailyn Hall won at No. 2, 6-0, 6-1 while Olivia Sornberger claimed No. 3, 6-4, 6-1. Chloe Kroenlein won the No. 4 spot, 6-4, 6-2 and Jordyn Kocher claimed a 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 6.

In doubles play, Paige Klingler and Hall combined to win, 6-2, 6-2.

In singles action for Effingham, Kristen Armstrong took the No. 1 position, 7-6 (5), 6-4 and Makenna Smith won the No. 5 spot, 6-4, 5-7, 10-7. 

In doubles play, the Hearts' Addy Hemrich and Ava Rogers combined to win 6-3, 7-6 (4) at No. 2. Emma Knaus and Smith combined to win at No. 3, 7-5, 2-6, 10-7.

No. 2 -- Hemrich-Rogers (E) defeated Kroenlein-Kendall Sessions (N), 6-3, 7-6 (4)

No. 3 -- Knaus-Smith (E) defeated Sornberger-Izzy Probst (N), 7-5, 2-6, 10-7
