EHS Edges Mount Zion In Tennis

Effingham High School played host to Mount Zion as two Apollo Conference tennis teams clashed Wednesday and the Hearts came out a 5-4 winner.

EHS claimed four of the six singles matches from No. 3 down to No. 6. Evan Pryor and Oliver Van Der Borght had a hard-fought battle. Pryor came out the winner, 7-6 (3), 4-6, 10-5. Preston Siner also had to battle to take a 7-6, 3-0, 6-2 win at No. 5.

Ross Schaefer won at No. 4, 6-1, 6-1 and Rece Kinney downed his opponent, 6-2, 6-0 at No. 6.

In doubles play,  Mount Zion took the top two spots. But Kinney and Cannon Bockhorn claimed the No. 3 position, 6-1, 6-1 for the match.

No. 1 -- Will Shade (MZ) defeated Blayne Pals (E), 6-4, 6-4

No. 2 -- Ben Walker (MZ) defeated Cannon Bockhorn (E), 6-3, 6-3

No. 3 -- Evan Pryor (E) defeated Oliver Van Der Borght (MZ), 7-6 (3), 4-6, 10-5

No. 4 -- Ross Schaefer (E) defeated Makobi Adams (MZ), 6-1, 6-1

No. 5 -- Preston Siner (E) defeated Thomas Kanemaru (MZ), 7-6, 3-0, 6-2

No. 6 -- Rece Kinney (E) defeated Max Iwanski (MZ), 6-2, 6-0

Doubles

No. 1 -- Walker-Van Der Borght (MZ) defeated Pals-Schaefer (E), 7-6 (6), 6-4

No. 2 -- Shade-Adams (MZ) defeated Pryor-Siner (E), 7-6 (6), 2-6, 10-7

No. 3 -- Kinney-Bockhorn (E) defeated Kanemaru-Iwanski (MZ), 6-1, 6-1
