Mattoon Beats St. Anthony, C-W Downs EHS In Tennis

Mattoon High School picked up five of the six singles matches and captured a doubles contest in downing Effingham St. Anthony 6-3 in a tennis match Wednesday.

The Bulldogs' Manaye Mossman was the lone singles player to win. Mossman handed Dalton Short a loss 7-6 (6), 6-2.

In doubles play, M. Mossman combined with Evan Mossman to capture a victory at No. 1 by a 6-1, 6-4 count.

Joey Trupiano and Colin Westendorf were winners at the No. 2 spot. The pair won the opener 7-5 then came back to take the match 6-2.

The Bulldogs aren't back in action until Tuesday, playing host to Casey-Westfield. Then it will be an all-Effingham battle as the Bulldogs host the Hearts next Thursday at 4:30 p.m.

At Effingham

Singles

No. 1 -- Manaye Mossman (SA) defeated Dalton Short (M), 7-6 (6), 6-2

No. 2 -- Will Pullen (M) defeated Evan Mossman (SA), 6-1, 6-3

No. 3 -- Jake Butler (M) defeated Colin Westendorf (E), 6-3, 6-1

No. 4 -- Hunter Basham (M) defeated Joey Trupiano (SA), 6-1, 6-1

No. 5 -- Aiden Hudson (M) defeated Connor Eggars (SA), 7-5, 6-2

No. 6 -- Karson Rice (M) defeated Jackson Schultz (SA), 6-2 6-2

Doubles

No. 1 -- M. Mossman-E. Mossman (SA) defeated Pullen-Basham (M), 6-1, 6-4

No. 2 -- Trupiano-Westendorf (SA) defeated Hudson-Noah Lange (M), 7-5, 6-2

No. 3 -- Short-Butler (M) defeated Eggars-Schultz (SA), 6-3, 6-2

 

At Casey

Casey-Westfield hosted Effingham and picked up a 6-3 victory.

The Warriors claimed four of the six singles and two of the three doubles matches.

Cannon Bockhorn claimed the No. 2 spot for the Hearts with a 6-4, 4-6, 1-0 (3) victory. Ross Schaefer took the No. 3 win, 6-4, 6-0.

In doubles, the Hearts lone point came at No. 3 as Bockhon and Rece Kinney were 6-3, 7-6 (2) winners.

At Casey
