St. Anthony, Newton Win Tennis Matches By Same 7-2 Score

MATTOON -- Effingham St. Anthony handed host Mattoon a 7-2 loss in high school tennis action Tuesday.

The Bulldogs claimed five of the six singles matches. Emily Kowalke was a 6-2 winner at the top spot followed by Mia Kinkelaar in a close contest, 6-3, 7-6 (3).

Liv Hoene captured the No. 3 spot, 6-2, 6-0. Ellie Link persevered at No. 4, 6-4, 6-7 (3), 10-8. Nora Trupiano finished out at No. 5, winning 6-2, 6-2.

In doubles play, Kinkelaar and Link combined to beat their opponents, 6-1, 6-4 at No. 1 doubles. Hoene and Kowalke took the second position, 6-0, 6-2.

At Mattoon

No. 2 -- Hoene-Kowalke (SA) defeated Butler-Avery Gill (M), 6-0, -2

No. 3 -- Gregory-Willingham (M) defeated Trupiano-Green (SA), 6-4, 6-1

 

At Centralia

Newton handed Centralia a 7-2 loss in Tuesday action.

Centralia's Sophi Barrow tallied a win at the No. 1 spot over Charlotte Schackmann, 10-4.

But the Eagles swept the rest of the singles wins. Paige Klingler won 10-3 while Jailyn Hall blanked her opponent 10-0. Abby Mekne won at No. 4, 10-2. Darci Marble and Chloe Kroenlein held their opponents scoreless, 10-0.

In doubles action, Schackmann and Menke were 10-7 winners at the No. 1 spot. Marble and Kroenlein won at No. 3, 10-0.

At Centralia
