St. A Finishes Fifth At Bloomington Purple Gold Tennis Tourney

BLOOMINGTON -- Effingham St. Anthony High School captured fifth place at the Bloomington Purple Gold Tennis Tournament during the weekend.

 

Libertyville won the championship with 66 points followed by Normal Community 55, Batavia 47, U-High 41, St. Anthony 37, Moline 34, Carbondale 29, Bloomington 15, Bloomington Central Catholic 14, LaSalle Peru 14, Normal Community West 13, Danville 12, Alton 10, Springfield Sacred Heart-Griffin 9 and Springfield 0.

In singles play, Emily Kowalke won her opening round, then fell in the second round before winning again at No. 1.

Mia Kinkelaar finished fourth in No. 2 singles. She opened with two straight victories before falling in the next two matches.

Liv Hoene captured third place at No. 3, winning the first two matches before losing a contest, then claiming third with a victory.

Ellie Link finished second at No. 4 singles. She won her first three matches before falling in the championship match, 6-1, 6-0.

Nora Trupiano won her opener at No. 5 before dropping the next two matches.

Anna Greene tallied a victory at No. 6 before losing a contest. She then won the next two matches.

In doubles play, Kowalke and Hoene finished tied for fifth at No. 1 as did Kinkelaar and Link at No. 2. Trupiano and Greene won their opener, then lost a match before winning once more and then losing again.
