EHS Edges Casey-Westfield, Newton Blanks Mount Carmel In Tennis

Effingham High School edged Casey-Westfield, 5-4 in tennis action Thursday.

The Hearts' Izzy Volpi captured the No. 1 singles spot with 6-3, 6-2 tallies. Charly Kreke won at No. 2,. She took the opener 6-4, fell in the second set 6-3 but came back to take the match 10-6. Kristen Armstrong won at No. 3, 6-3, 6-3. Makenna Duckwitz took the No.4 position, 7-5, 6-1.

The Hearts held a 4-2 lead going into doubles action. Armstrong and Volpi combined with a 6-0, 6-3 set wins and the Hearts claimed the match.

At Effingham

No. 2 -- Charly Kreke (E) defeated Allyson Truelove (CW), 6-4, 3-6, 10-6

No. 4 -- Makenna Duckwitz (E) defeated Cara Hancock (CW), 7-5, 6-1

N0. 6 -- Lucy Moore (CW) defeated Lindy Kalber (E), 6-3, 6-3

No. 1 -- Armstrong-Volpi (E) defeated Shull-Moore (CW), 6-0, 6-3

No. 2 -- Eckerty-Truelove (CW) defeated Lindy Kalber-Kreke (E), 6-3, 6-1

N0. 3 -- Seatone-Tristan Ring (CW) defeated Duckwitz-Ava Rogers (E), 6-3, 6-2

 

At Newton

Newton blanked Mount Carmel by a 9-0 count Thursday.

The Eagles swept through singles play as Charlotte Schackmann was a 10-3 winner at No. 1. Paige Klingler captured No. 1, 10-1. Taking the No. 3 spot was Jailyn Hall, 10-6. Abby Menke, Darci Marble and Chloe Kroenlein were all 10-1 winners at Nos. 4-6 respectively.

In doubles action, Schackmann and Menke combined to win 10-3. Klingler and Hall took No. 2, 10-1 and Marble and Kroenlein finished out at No. 3 with a 10-3 win
