Bulldogs, Shoes Second At Weekend Tennis Tourneys

CHAMPAIGN -- Effingham St. Anthony High School placed second at the Champaign Centennial Doubles Tennis Tournament Saturday.

Emily Kowalke and Liv Hoene won the No. 1 doubles spot. They defeated L. Emm/Keller (Bloomington Central Catholic), 6-0, 6-1 then had a tough contest, pulling out a 3-6, 7-5, 10-4 win over David/Olechowska of Downers Grove South. They finished out with a 6-3 win over O'Gorman and Charney of Champaign Central.

Mia Kinkelaar and Ellie Link placed second at the No. 2 doubles spot. The pair downed L. Hundman/A. Emm of Bloomington Central Catholic, 6-2, 6-3 then won over Harmon/Gower of Robinson, 6-2, 6-0. They lost to Urgello/Koslowwicz of Downers Grove South, 0-6, 6-3, 6-3.

In the No. 3 doubles spot, Nora Trupiano and Julia Schultz finished third. The pair lost to Williams/Chlopek of Downers Grove South, 6-4, 6-1 then won over Avrutin-Stortzum of Champaign Central, 6-2, 3-6, 10-8 and defeated Garremkonda/Sanghvi of Dunlap, 7-5, 7-6 (5).

Gracie Passalacqua and Gabbie Kabbes finished fourth. They won over Amadon/Jacobini of St. Thomas More, 6-1, 6-1 then fell to Anderson/Liu  of Dunlap, 6-4, 0-6, 10-2. They won over Su/Kalontziscope of Champaign Central, 6-4, 6-2 before falling to H. Hevron/Stufin of Robinson, 6-1, 6-3.

 

At Centralia

Teutopolis placed second at the Annies' Tennis Invitaitonal Saturday.

The Teutopolis girls competed at the Annies' Tennis Invitational in Centralia Saturday and finished second. Highland was the overall champion.

Jada Buehnerkemper and Ella Wermert were champions of the No. 2 doubles flight. Olivia Hemmen and Anna Probst placed fourth at the No. 1 doubles flight.

In singles play, Julian Hemmen was the champion of the No. 2 singles flight. Abbie Lee tied for fifth place at the No. 1 singles flight.
