Bulldogs Fourth, Shoes Champions At Girls Tennis Tourneys

ALTON -- Effingham St. Anthony captured fourth place out of 15 teams at the Alton High School Robert Logan Tennis Invitational Saturday.

Highland won the meet with 28 points followed by Lafayette 25.5, Cor Jesu Academy 25, St. Anthony 21, Webster Groves 18.5, Troy Triad 18, Jerseyville Jersey 16, Springfield 13, Alton 7, Bethalto Civic Memorial 7, Springfield Sacred Heart-Griffin 5, Collinsville 3, Alton Marquette 3, Granite City 1 and Nashville 0.

In Flight 1 singles play, Emily Kowalke captured second place.

Kowalke won over Evelyn Eams of Nashville, 8-1 then downed Andie Green of Troy Triad, 6-2, 6-1. Kowalke then advanced to the championship match with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Sophia Fleming of Highland.

In the title contest, Kowalke fell to Elena Davis of Cor Jesu Academy, 6-1, 6-1.

In Flight 2 singles, Liv Hoene also claimed a second place finish.

Hoene blanked Joanna Bull of Cor Jesu Academy, 8-0. She then downed Hannah Sweeney of Webster Groves, 6-4, 6-1. Hoene had a had-fought third match but won 7-5, 6-0, 10-8 over Kailey Politte of Lafayette.

In the title contest, Hoene fell to Ruthie Manor of Highland, 6-4, 7-5.

In Flight 1 of doubles play, Mia Kinkelaar and Ellie Link finished fifth. The pair won over Jenna Fassler/Anna Larson of Alton, 8-1. The duo then fell to N. Korrapati/E. Rossi of Springfield, 7-6, 7-5.

That pushed them into the the fifth place category where they downed Elise Noble and Tessa Crawford of Jerseyville Jersey, 6-2, 0-6, 10-8. Then in the fifth place contest, the Bulldogs duo won over Maya Pollard and Josie Wojcikiewicz of Highland, 6-1, 6-3.

In Flight 2 doubles, Nora Trupiano and Julia Schultz lost their opening match against Isabelle Albert and Vedha Inampudi of Lafayette, 8-3.

Gabby Kabbes and Anna Greene competed in the No. 3 doubles flight. The pair won over Emma Wagner and Ava Digirolamo of Collinsville, 8-1. The pair then lost to Madison Stehlik and Kylee Sowers of Highland, 6-3, 6-4. That dropped the pair into the fifth place bracket where they fell to Kiley King and Neely Goetten of Jerseyville Jersey, 7-5, 6-0.

 

Teutopolis claimed the championship of the Paris Doubles Tourney.

At Paris

Teutopolis earned the championship of the Paris Doubles Tennis Tournament Saturday.

Olivia Hemmen and Anna Probst were champions of the No. 1 doubles flight.

Jada Buehnerkemper and Ella Wermert claimed the crown in the No. 2 doubles flight.

Julia Hemmen and Abbie Lee placed second in the No. 3 doubles flight.

Winning the championship at the No. 4 doubles flight were Adi Davidson and Kelsey Niemerg.
