Bulldogs, Hearts, Shoes Win In Tennis Action

Effingham St. Anthony pushed its tennis record to 8-1 on the season with a 6-3 win over Mattoon Monday.

The Bulldogs were winners in four of the six singles matches. Manaye Mossman took the No. 1 spot, 6-2, 6-1 while Aidan Tegeler claimed the No. 2 position, 6-1, 6-3.

Evan Mossman fought through for a 3-6, 6-2, 10-6 win. Matt Herzing downed his opponent, also in a tough match, 7-6 (5), 6-2.

In doubles play, M. Mossman and Tegeler combined to win 6-0, 6-3 while E. Mossman and Adam Rudibaugh were winners at No. 2, 6-0, 6-2.

At Mattoon

Singles

No. 1 -- Manaye Mossman (SA) defeated Dalton Short (M), 6-2, 6-1

No. 2 -- Aidan Tegeler (SA) defeated Hunter Basham (M), 6-1, 6-3

No. 3 -- Evan Mossman (SA) defeated Will Pullen (M), 3-6, 6-2, 10-6

No. 4 -- Ty Eastin (M) defeated Connor Eggars (SA), 6-2, 6-2

No. 5 -- Matt Herzing (SA) defeated Ean Freeman (M), 7-6 (5), 6-2

No. 6 -- Jake Butler (M) defeated Jackson Schultz (SA), 6-0, 6-0

Doubles

No. 1 -- M. Mossman-Tegeler (SA) defeated Pullen-Eastin (M), 6-0, 6-3

No. 2 -- E. Mossman-Rudibaugh (SA) defeated Short-Basham (M), 6-0, 6-2

No. 3 -- Noah Lange-Aidan Hudson (M) defeated Eggars-Herzing (SA), 6-0, 1-6, 10-4

 

At Effingham

Effingham took five of the six singles matches and swept through doubles play in an 8-1 win over Robinson Monday.

The Hearts' Thad Dillow was a winner at the top singles spot, 6-2, 6-0. Blayne Pals went 6-2, 0-6, 12-10 for the win at No. 2.

Preston Siner downed his opponent, 6-0, 6-1. Ross Schaefer won in a hard-fought match, 2-6, 6-4, 10-7 while Cannon Bockhorn also had a tough match, taking the win 5-7, 6-1, 11-9.

In doubles play, Dillow and Pals combined to win 6-1, 4-6, 10-8. Schaefer and Bockhorn went 6-4, 6-2. Siner and Hagler downed their opponents 6-2, 3-6, 10-8.

EHS now sports a 6-3 record.

At Effingham

No. 3 -- Siner-Hagler (R) defeated Thompson-Cash Veteto (R), 6-2, 3-6, 10-8.

 

At Salem

Teutopolis had Salem's number and blanked the Wildcats by a 9-0 score Monday.

Kolten Tabbert picked up a 6-0, 6-1 victory at No. 1 singles. Myles Stortzum flipped those scores to 6-1, 6-0 at No. 5. Colin Habing won 6-0, 6-3 at No. 2.

Carter Davidson took the No. 3 spot, 6-2, 6-4 and Paul Huber was a 6-4, 6-4 winner at No. 6. The closest match was at No. 4 as Noah Thompson went 6-7 (5), 6-1, 10-4 for the win at No. 4.

In doubles play, Tabbert and Habing combined to blank their opponents 6-0, 6-0. Thompson and Will Lewis were 7-5, 6-4 winners and Davidson and Stortzum downed their opponents 8-3.

At Salem
