T-town Wins Mattoon Tennis Tourney Championship

MATTOON -- Teutopolis High School competed in the Mattoon Tennis Invitational Saturday and won the team championship.

The Wooden Shoes won the No. 1 and No. 2 doubles and placed third in No. 2 singles. The Shoes tallied 11 points followed by Mattoon 11, Mount Zion 10, Urbana 9, Salem 9, Casey-Westfield 8, Newton 7, Paris 7, Robinson 6, Charleston 4, Lincoln 3, Maroa-Forsyth 2 and Shelbyville 1.

In the No. 1 doubles, Kolten Tabbert and Colin Having defeated a Salem pair, 6-4, 6-2 then won over a Mattoon pair, 6-4, 6-0.

The duo then downed a Mount Zion team, 7-5, 6-3 before beating Ben Street and Isaac Street of Newton, 6-1, 6-1.

B. Street and I. Street blanked a Paris team, 6-0, 6-0 before beating a team from Urbana, 6-1, 6-1.

In the No. 2 doubles, Oliver Lee and Noah Thompson won over Paris, 6-1, 6-2 then beat a team from Salem, 6-4, 6-2 before beating Newton's Joao Sandoval and Isaac Kocher, 6-2, 7-6 to win.

Kocher and Sandoval blanked a Robinson team, 6-0, 6-0 and won over a Casey-Westfield pair, 6-0, 6-1. the pair defeated a Mount Zion duo, 6-2, 6-4.

T-town's Myles Stortzum won his opener at No. 1 singles against John Tran of Salem, 6-3, 2-6, 10-8. Stortzum then fell to Eli Rosborough of Robinson, 6-3, 6-1. Stortzum came back to down Charleston's Austin Fehrenbacher, 8-3 but dropped a match against Urbana's Joe Solava, 8-3 to finish third.

Also in No. 1 singles play, Newton's Alex Bigard won over Charleston's Austin Fehrenbacher, 6-4, 6-1. Bigard then lost to Mattoon's Dalton Short, 6-0, 6-1 and fell to John Tran of Salem, 8-3. 

At No. 2 singles, Newton's Wesley Britton defeated Kayden Harminson of Mattoon, 6-1, 6-4. But Britton ran into T-town's Paul Huber and fell 6-0, 4-6, 10-3. Huber then fell to Owen Schmidt of Robinson, 6-2, 6-3. Huber then won over Salem's Daniyal, 7-5, 7-5.

Britton then lost his final match against Kyle Ross of Charleston, 8-5.
