EHS Beats Robinson, St. A Edges Mt. Zion In Tennis

Effingham High School handed Robinson a 6-3 defeat in tennis action Monday.

Thad Dillow claimed the  No. 1 singles match by a 6-2, 6-1 count. Evan Pryor won the No. 3 spot, 6-3, 6-1. Ross Schaefer then downed his opponent at No. 5. Schafer lost the opening set 6-3 but came back to win, 7-5, 10-6. Cannon Bockhorn finished out the Hearts wins in singles at No. 6, 6-2, 6-2.

In doubles action, Dillow and Blayne Pals combined at No. 1 to win in a contest that was a challenge. The scores were 7-6 (8), 5-7, 10-5.

Schaefer and Bockhorn won at No. 3 easily, 6-1, 6-0.

At Effingham

Singles

No. 1 -- Thad Dillow (E) defeated Eli Rosborough (R), 6-2 ,6-1

No. 2 -- Owen Schmidt (R) defeated Blayne Pals (E), 6-1, 6-3

No. 3 -- Evan Pryor (E) defeated Cody Waggoner (R), 6-3, 6-1

No. 4 -- Derek Steward (R) defeated Preston Siner (E), 6-3, 6-2

No. 5 -- Ross Schaefer (E) defeated Duke Thompson (E), 3-6, 7-5, 10-6

No. 6 -- Cannon Bockhorn (E) defeated Cash Veteto (R), 6-2, 6-2

Doubles

No. 1 -- Dillow-Pals (E) defeated Rosborough-Schmidt (R), 7-6 (8), 5-7, 10-5

No. 2 -- Steward-Thompson (R) defeated Siner-Pryor (E), 6-1, 6-4

No. 3 -- Schaefer-Bockhorn (E) defeated Waggoner-Veteto (R), 6-1, 6-0

 

At Mount Zion

St. Anthony and Mount Zion split victories in singles contests with each capturing three wins.

But the Bulldogs came back to win two of the three doubles matches to pull out the 5-4 victory Monday.

Winning in singles for St. Anthony were Manaye Mossman at No. 1 by 6-1, 6-3 scores. Ben Walker claimed No. 3, 6-4, 6-1 and Adam Rudibaugh won at No. 4, 6-2, 6-2.

In doubles, the Bulldogs claimed the No. 1 spot, as M. Mossman and Tegeler won 7-5, 6-2. St. Anthony captured No. 2 as E. Mossman and Rudibaugh combined to win, 6-1, 7-6 (3).

"It was warm but windy," said St. Anthony Coach Darlene Esker. "It was a very close match."

At Mount Zion

No. 4 -- Adam Rudibaugh (SA) defeated Clark Mason (MZ), 6-2, 6-2

No. 5 -- Alex Cumont (MZ) defeated connro Eggers (SA), 6-0, 6-0

No. 6 -- Oliver Vonderbarht (MZ) defeated Matt Herzing (SA), 7-5, 6-3
