EHS Beats Paris, Flora Downs St. Anthony

Effingham High School edged Paris, 5-4 in tennis action Thursday.

The Tigers took off to a 4-2 lead with singles play. The two points for the Hearts came at No. 5 singles as Ella Seaman won 6-4, 6-0 and Kaitlyn Parker at No. 6, 6-1, 6-1

The Hearts then swept doubles play to pull out the victory.

Aila Woomer and Izzy Volpi took the top spot, 6-4, 6-2. Madison Mapes and Gracie Kroenlein took the No. 2 spot, 6-1, 6-2. Seaman and Parker then combined to win, 7-5, 6-1.

At Effingham

No. 1 -- Lily Graham (P) defeated Madison Mapes (E), 6-3, 3-6 10-7

No. 2 -- Kimber Calvert (P) defeated Aila Woomer (E), 6-1, 6-2

No. 3 -- Lily Smittkamp (P) defeated Izzy Volpi (E), 6-4, 7-6

No. 4 -- Emerson Barrett (P) defeated Gracie Kroenlein (E), 6-4, 4-6, 10-7

No. 5 -- Ella Seaman (E) defeated Claire Maschino (P), 6-4, 6-0

No. 6 -- Kaitlyn Parker (E) defeated Savanna Reed (P), 6-1, 6-1

Doubles

No. 1 -- Woomer-Volpi (E) defeated Graham-Calvert (P), 6-4, 6-2

No. 2 -- Mapes-Kroenlein (E) defeated Smittkamp-Calvert (P), 6-1, 6-2

No. 3 -- Seaman-Parker (E) defeated Barrett-Reed (P), 7-5, 6-1

 

At Flora

Flora picked up a 6-3 victory over Effingham St. Anthony Thursday.

The Bulldogs captured two victories in singles play. Emily Kowalke won at No. 1, 6-4, 7-6 (6) while Madelyn Brown took the No. 6 spot, 6-0, 6-2.

In doubles play, Laura Schmidt and Brown combined to win at No. 3, 6-4, 5-7, 10-8.

"There was good competition and very close games," said St. Anthony Coach Darlene Esker.
