Iga Swiatek, Rafael Nadal Wins First-Round Matches

Top-ranked woman Iga Swiatek and second-seeded man Rafael Nadal won their first-round U.S. Open matches Tuesday.

The women’s defending champion, Number 11 Emma Raducanu , lost in the first round to unseeded Alize Cornet, and also out in the first round was Venus Williams.

Serena Williams will play her second round match tonight in what’s expected to be the final tournament of her career. She’ll face second-seeded Anett Kontaveit.
