Serena Williams lost in her first round match at Wimbledon Tuesday, her first singles match since getting injured at the tournament last year.

She fell to 115th-ranked Harmony Tan 7-5, 1-6, 7-6 (10-7), coming up short in a third-set tiebreaker. When the 40-year-old was asked if this might have been her last match, she said, “That’s a question I can’t answer. I don’t know. ... Who knows? Who knows where I’ll pop up?”

Withdrawing Tuesday were Matteo Berrettini, last year’s runner-up, and Marin Cilic, after both tested positive for Covid-19 after developing symptoms.
