St. A Wins Robinson Tourney, Beats Flora; T-town Downs Newton In Tennis

St. Anthony claimed the championship of the Robinson Tennis Tournament.

ROBINSON -- Effingham St. Anthony High School claimed the championship of the Robinson Tennis Tournament during the weekend.

The Bulldogs tallied 13 points followed by Mattoon 12, Teutopolis 11, Olney 7, Newton 4.5, Robinson 2, Effingham 1.5 and Paris 1.5.

In Flight One, St. Anthony's Tegeler and Kemme won their opener 6-2, 6-1 over a Robinson pair before downing a T-town duo, 7-5, 4-6, 10-6. The pair then finished second with a 6-1, 6-2 loss to Mattoon.

In Flight Two, the St. Anthony duo of Mossman/Mossman won over Robinson, 6-0, 6-2 then downed T-town's Habing/Habing, 1-6, 6-0, 11-9 to enter the title match. The Bulldogs then defeated an Olney pair, 7-5, 6-2 for the championship.

In Flight Three, the St. Anthony team of McDonald/Valdes won over Newton's Schackmann/Britton, 6-1, 6-2 before falling to a Mattoon pair, 2-6, 6-3, 10-6. That dropped them into the third place match where they defeated an Olney pair, 6-3, 4-6, 10-6.

In a regular match Monday, St. Anthony edged Flora, 5-4.

Manaye Mossman won 6-0, 6-1 at No. 1 singles and paired with Aiden Tegeler at No. 1 doubles to win, 8-3. Aiden Tegeler won at  No. 3 singles, 6-3, 6-1 and Roberto Valdes claimed the No. 4 spot, 6-4, 3-6, 10-7. Matt Herzing finished out at No. 6 singles, winning, 6-4, 6-1.

At Newton

Teutopolis claimed a 6-3 victory over Newton Monday.

Newton took the top two singles victories as Ben Street won 3-6, 6-3, 1-0 (5) and Isaac Street claimed the win 6-1, 6-2.

T-town's Josh Habing won at No. 3, 6-2, 6-3 while Colin Habing claimed a 6-4, 6-4 victory. Hayden Jansen won at No. 5, 6-1, 6-1 and Myles Stortzum took the No. 6 spot, 6-2, 6-2.

In doubles, Newton's B. Street/I. Street combined to win 6-3, 6-2.

T-town then took the next two doubles victories. J. Habing and C. Habing combinetod  win, 6-3, 6-3 while Carter Davidson and Oliver Lee won 6-1, 6-0.
