Bulldogs Edge Charleston, T-town Downs Olney

CHARLESTON -- St. Anthony led 4-2 going into doubles competition and Charleston came roaring back. But the Bulldogs' Scott Rentfrow and Jay Niebrugge pulled out the No. 2 win as the Bulldogs edged the Trojans 5-4 in tennis action Monday.

In singles play, Cole Buehnerkemper won 6-2, 6-1 at No. 1 while Rentfrow claimed a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 3. J. Niebrugge took the No. 4 spot, 6-0, 6-1 and Alec Niebrugge won at No. 6, 6-2, 6-4 to give the Bulldogs the lead.

But Charleston came back to take the No. 1 and No. 3 spots in doubles play but St. Anthony only needed one point and got it from Rentfrow and J. Niebrugge to improve to 9-2 on the season.

At Charleston

Singles

No. 1 -- Cole Buehnerkemper (SA) defeated S. Hussey (C), 6-2, 6-1

No. 2 -- A. Gowin (C) defeated Frank Jansen (SA), 6-1, 7-5

At Teutopolis

Teutopolis pushed its overall record to 7-1 on the season with a 6-3 win over Olney.

The Wooden Shoes captured four singles victories as Kyle Brumleve won at the top spot, 4-6, 7-5, 6-4,  Andy Mersman took No. 4, 6-1, 6-0, Mitch Meinhart downed his opponent 6-2, 6-2 and Karson Pruemer won 6-1, 6-3.

In doubles action, Olney claimed the No. 1 spot but T-town took the next two victories. Mersman and Keith Weber had a hard-fought win at No. 2, losing the opener 7-5 but coming back 7-6, 7-5. Grunloh and Meinhart also lost their opener 6-3 but came back to win easily 6-1, 6-3.

"It was a great match," said T-town Coach Kaye Kimpling. "The guys pulled out all their best stuff tonight."
