GREENVILLE -- Effingham St. Anthony tallied a 6-3 victory over Greenville in tennis competition Monday.

The Bulldogs split wins in singles play then swept the doubles for the team victory.

Emily Kowalke and Ali Adams were doubles partners at No. 1 and picked up the win, 6-1, 6-4. Kowalke also won in singles play by 6-0, 6-3 counts.

Laurie Schmidt and Grace Karolewicz were winners at No. 2 doubles. Greenville claimed the opener 6-4 but Schmidt and Karolewicz came back strong, to win 6-3, 10-5. Karolewicz claimed her singles contest, 6-4, 6-1.

Madelyn Brown and Izzy Hakman were doubles winners at No. 3, taking the contest 6-4, 6-0. Brown was a winner at No. 5 singles, 6-4, 6-2.

At Greenville

Singles

No. 1 -- Emily Kowalke (SA) defeated E. Schaufelberger (G), 6-0, 6-3

No. 2 -- K. Rileas (G) defeated Ali Adams (SA), 4-6, 6-3, 10-8

No. 3 -- P. Mathias (G) defeated Laurie Schmidt (SA), 6-4, 6-3

No. 4 -- Grace Karolewicz (SA) defeated E. Johnson (G), 6-4, 6-1

No. 5 -- Madelyn Brown (SA) defeated A. Palen (G), 6-4, 6-2

No. 6 -- C. Miller (G) defeated Annie Strullmyer (SA), 6-4, 6-0

Doubles

No. 1 -- Kowalke-Adams (SA) defeated Schaufelberger-Rileas (G), 6-1, 6-4

No. 2 -- Schmidt-Karolewicz (SA) defeated Mathias-Johnson (G), 4-6, 6-3, 10-5

No. 3 -- Brown-Izzy Hakman (SA) defeated Palen-Miller (G), 6-4, 6-0

 

At Mount Zion

Effingham blanked Mount Zion in Apollo Conference play, 9-0 Monday.

Lydia Kull lost her opener 6-3 but came back strong, taking a 6-1 victory and winning 10-5 at No. 1 singles. Eden Wendling also fell in her opener at No. 2, 6-2 but rallied for a 6-4, 10-6 win. Madison Mapes won 6-0, 6-2 at No. 3 while Aila Woomer took the No. 4 spot, 6-3, 6-4. Izzy Volpi claimed her match, 6-2, 7-6 (2). Gracie Kroenlein was a 6-3, 6-3 winner to round out the singles.

In doubles, Kull and Woomer took the top spot, 7-6 (4), 6-2. Wendling and Kroenlein combined at No. 2, 7-5, 6-4. Mapes and Volpi finished out strong with a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 3.

At Mount Zion
