St. Anthony Fourth at Springfield Tennis Invite

SPRINGFIELD -- Effingham St. Anthony finished fifth at the Springfield Sacred Heart Griffin Tennis Invitational Monday.
Winning the invitational was Glenwood with 28 points followed by Sacred Heart Griffin 20, Niles North 1 14, Quincy Notre Dame 13, St. Anthony 11, Glenwood 10, Bloomington Central Catholic 8 and Niles North 2 6.
St. Anthony's Ali Adams captured second place in the No. 2 singles. Adams won 6-1, 6-1 in the opening match over Louise Blades of Niles North 2 then claimed a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Elise Destasio of Glenwood White putting her into the title contest. She fell to Samantha Shankland of Glenwood Red, 6-2, 6-2.
In No. 1 singles, Emily Kowalke finished fifth. Kowalke lost her opener to Lia Quintero of Quincy Notre Dame 6-3, 6-3 then won over Lily Randolph of Glenwood Red by default. She then downed Julia Kagan of Glenwood White, 6-1, 4-6, 1-0 (5).
Annie Strullmyer finished sixth in the No. 3 singles. Strullmyer fell to Carolina Sheehan of Springfield Sacred Heart Griffin, 6-0, 6-1. She then downed Alyssa Ley of Quincy Notre Dame, 3-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10) before falling in the fifth place match to Emma Gutzman of Glenwood White, 6-4, 4-6, 1-0 (8).
In doubles play, Karolewicz-Schmidt won their opener over Doran-Dulceak of Glenwood White, 6-4, 7-6 (2). The pair then fell to Ames/Emm of Bloomington Central Catholic, 6-2, 6-0. The pair finished fourth with a loss fo Anderson/Huelsman of Springfield Sacred Heart Griffin, 6-1, 6-4.
Brown/Hakman competed in the No. 2 doubles. The pair fell to Ostermeier/Hembrook of Glenwood White, 6-3, 6-2. They exited the tourney with a loss to Sacred Heart Griffin's Balen/Christie, 6-4, 6-3.
