T-town Beats EHS, St. A Nabs Tennis Wins

TEUTOPOLIS -- Teutopolis High School handed Effingham a 7-2 loss in tennis action Tuesday plus the Wooden Shoes and Hearts finished out a match that started on May 18 with the Shoes winning that one 6-3.

In Tuesday's contest, the Wooden Shoes claimed four of the six singles matches. Kolton Tabbert nabbed No. 2 by a 7-6, 6-2 count. Hayden Jansen won at No. 4, 1-6, 6-4, 1-0 (4), Carter Davidson at No. 5, 6-2, 6-4 and Ryder Vahling at No. 6, 6-1, 6-3.

The two Hearts victories came at  No. 1 as Thad Dillow blanked his opponent, 6-0, 6-0 and at No. 3 as Tyler Nohren was a 6-3, 6-4 winner.

In doubles play, the Shoes swept. Jansen and Tabbert combined at the top spot to win. EHS claimed the opening set 6-4 before the Shoes won 6-2, 1-0 (5). Davidson and Gus Siemer were winners at No. 2. This one was also a tough contest with the Shoes losing the opener 6-3 before coming back with 6-3, 1-0 (6) for the win. Myles Stortzum and Paul Niemerg captured No. 3, 6-0, 6-1.

In the match that was contested May 18, the Wooden Shoes claimed a 6-3 win over EHS.

The singles were contested but the doubles was postponed.

In singles action, Tabbert, Niemerg, Davidson and Siemer captured wins while Efifngham's Dillow and Seiler were winners.

In doubles, Dillow and Pals won at No. 1 for the Hearts but T-town took the next two matches as Siemer and Davidson combined at No. 2 and Jansen and Stortzum were winners at No. 3.

At St. Anthony

Effingham St. Anthony captured two victories in tennis action Tuesday.

The Bulldogs won over Maroa-Forsyth, 7-2 claiming five of the six singles matches.

Aidan Tegeler was a 6-2, 6-4 winner at No. 1 for the Bulldogs while Henry Kemme took No. 2, 6-3, 6-3. Evan Mossman had a tougher contest at No. 3. Mossman won 6-3, fell 7-6 (8) and won 10-8. Bryant Mossman was a winner at No. 5, 6-2, 6-1 and Matt Herzing went three sets to win at No. 6. He fell in the opening contest, 6-4 but came back 6-3, 10-7.

In doubles play, McDonald and Herzing won at No. 2, 8-6 and E. and B. Mossman claimed No. 3, 8-3.

"It was cool and great for tennis," said St. Anthony Coach Darlene Esker.

In the second contest, the Bulldogs downed Casey-Westfield, 6-3.

Tegeler won at No. 2 singles, 6-1, 6-3 while Kemme took the No. 3 spot, 6-4, 6-1. The duo then combined at No. 1 doubles to win, 6-3, 6-1.

McDonald won his No. 4 match 6-1, 6-1 while Herzing took the  No. 6 spot, 6-3, 6-1. McDonald and Herzing then got together in the No. 3 doubles match to win, 6-4, 6-3.

"This was the second match of the day and all were tired," said Bloemer.
