Newton Edges EHS In Tennis, 5-4

Newton High School edged Effingham, 5-4 in high school tennis competition Monday.

Newton won four of the six singles matches.  The Eagles' Ben Street, Isaac Kocher, Luke Weber and Adam Zumbahlen claimed victories.

Street won at the top spot over Thad Dillow. Dillow claimed the opener 6-3 but Street came back with 6-3, 10-4 sets for the win.

Kocher took No. 2 over Blayne Pals, 6-2, 7-5. Weber downed Preston Siner at No. 4. Siner was a 6-4 winner before Weber came back with 6-3, 10-5 sets for the win. Zumbahlen downed Dane Seiler, 6-2, 7-6 (4).

Effingham's victories were from Tyler Nohren at No. 3 over Kayden Schackmann, 6-2, 6-3 and Isaiah Rubin downed Beau Slankard, 6-1, 6-1 at No. 6.

In doubles play, Effingham's Dillow and Pals combined to beat Street and Kenny Hartke, 6-2, 6-4 at No. 1.

The Hearts' Seiler and Evan Pryor captured the win at No. 3 over Tyler Olmstead and Slankard,  6-1, 1-6, 10-7.

Newton's win was at No. 2 as Kocher and Weber combined to beat Nohren and Siner, 7-5, 6-2.

Singles

No. 1 -- Ben Street (N) defeated Thad Dillow (E), 3-6, 6-3, 10-4

No. 2 -- Isaac Kocher (N) defeated Blayne Pals (E), 6-2, 7-5

No. 3 -- Tyler Nohren (E) defeated Kayden Schackmann (N), 6-2, 6-3

No. 4 -- Luke Wber (N) defeated Preston Siner (E), 4-6, 6-3, 10-5

No. 5 -- Adam Zumbahlen (N) defeated Dane Seiler (E), 6-2, 7-6 (4)

No. 6 -- Isaiah Rubin (E) defeated Beau Slankard (N), 6-1, 6-1

Doubles

No. 1 -- Dillow-Pals (E) defeated Street-Kenny Hartke (N), 6-2, 6-4

No. 2 -- Kocher-Weber (N) defeated Nohren-Siner (E), 7-5, 6-1

No. 3-- Seiler-Pryor (E) defeated Tyler Olmstead-Slankard (N), 6-1, 1-6, 10-7
