EHS, T-town Are 8-1 Winners in Tennis Action

ROBINSON -- Effingham High School improved to 2-0 on the young tennis season with an 8-1 victory over Robinson Monday.
The Hearts picked up five of the six singles wins, all in two sets, except for the No. 2 spot. Isaac Foreman went 6-1 in the opening set, then fell 7-6 before coming back 10-3 for the victory. Jared Minor won 6-2, 6-4 while Jake Heuerman was a 6-4, 7-6 winner. Parth Maheshwari claimed a win 6-2, 6-0 while Wyatt Wohltman reversed the scores to win 6-0, 6-2.
In doubles action, the first two were hard-fought battles. Foreman and Jason Wohltman combined to take the victory. The duo lost the opener 6-4 then came back with a 7-5 win and went out at 10-1. Minor and W. Wohltman also lost the opening set 7-6 but fought back to win 6-3 and go out at 10-8. Heuerman and Maheshwari easily claimed their win at No. 3, 6-0, 6-1.

At Casey
Teutopolis traveled to Casey-Westfield and picked up both varsity and junior varsity victories Monday.
In the varsity contest, the Wooden Shoes won 8-1. Kyle Brumleve took the top spot easily 6-1, 6-1. Ryan Westendorf was a winner at No. 2, 6-3, 7-5. In the No. 3 spot, Matt Grunloh blanked his opponent in the opening contest 6-0, then won 6-2. Mitch Meinhart went 6-2, 6-3 and Ben Hoelscher claimed a 7-5, 6-4 victory.
In doubles play, T-town swept through. Brumleve-Westendorf lost the first set 7-6 but rallied to take the second set 6-4 and won 6-4. Jay Funneman and Hoelscher sailed through the second match 6-1, 6-0. Matt Grunloh and Meinhart claimed the final match 7-6, 6-2.
T-town also claimed the junior varsity contest 5-0. The matches were the season openers for the Wooden Shoes.
