Effingham Hands Salem 9-0 Loss

Effingham High School played host to Salem and sent the Wildcats home with a 9-0 tennis loss Thursday at Hendelmeyer Park.
EHS swept through the singles play with Isaac Foreman blanking his opponent at No. 2, 6-0, 6-0. Aaron Meyers won the top spot 6-2, 6-0. Jared Minor picked up a 6-2, 6-4 victory while Jake Heuerman won 7-6 (4) 6-3. Parth Maheshwari claimed the No. 5 position 6-0, 6-2. Nick Pellman had a tough match winning the opener 6-0 but losing the second set 7-5. Pellman then pulled out the victory 11-9.
In doubles play, Foreman and Jason Wohltman combined at No. 1 and easily won 6-0, 6-0. Minor and Wyatt Wohltman claimed the No. 2 spot, 6-2, 6-2. Kodi Avery and Cody Sennett were winners at No. 3 but the contest went three sets. Salem won 7-6 and Effingham rallied to win 6-0. The Hearts then pulled out the victory 10-7.
The match was the season opener for the Hearts who are back in action Monday at Robinson with a 3:30 p.m. start.
