The Citi Open in Washington, D.C., which was supposed to be the official return of men's professional tennis from its coronavirus shutdown, was scrapped Tuesday.

The hard-court tournament was supposed to begin August 13. Tournament manager Mark Ein said the decision was made because of “too many unresolved external issues, including various international travel restrictions as well as troubling health and safety trends.”
