Good Results After First Day at Girls State Tournament

Good results have been seen following the first day of the girls tennis state tournament Thursday.
In singles play, Emilee Mossman of St. Anthony won three times. Mossman downed Kate Feldmann of Highland, 6-0, 6-0 before beating Nicole Szidik of Marion, 6-1, 6-1. She finished out with a win over Cassandra Lee of Elmhurst Timothy Christian, 6-1, 6-3. She'll compete in the quarterfinals Friday at Buffalo Grove against Emma Davis of New Lenox Providence Catholic.
Jacelyn Street of Newton won twice Thursday before dropping a match. She defeated Emma Gerth of Kankakee McNamara, 6-0, 6-1 then won over Mariel Runyan of Bloomington, 6-3, 7-5. Street lost to Lucy Mitchell of Chicago Latin, 6-2, 6-2. She will compete in the fourth round of consolation Friday.
Diana Mossman of Teutopolis lost her first match to Emma Baker of Chicago University, 6-0, 6-0 but then moved into consolation bracket play and won over Brooke Akrami of Palos Heights Chicago Christian, 6-0, 6-2. Mossman then exited the tourney with her second loss, this one to Taylor Disharoon of Dunlap, 6-0, 6-2.
In doubles play, Alli Brumleve and Macy Probst of Teutopolis won three times. They downed Lilli Hansen and Karina Bonilla of Chicago Heights Marion, 6-0, 6-1 before downing Ashlen Deluca and Nicole Knackstedt of Highland, 6-2, 6-1.
They finished out the day with a victory over Olivia Hamm and Ellie Howland of West Chicago Wheaton Academy, 7-6 (2), 6-3. The pair will face Isabella Kellemeier and Emilee Pak of Chicago University at Buffalo Grove Friday.
Allison Kowalke and Averee Greene of St. Anthony won all three matches Friday. The pair downed Clair Moore and Abigail Ley of Quincy Notre Dame, 6-3, 6-2 before downing Maggie Kraft and Brooke Martin of Normal University, 6-3, 6-2. The pair then won over Angela Mathew and Rachel Zilligen of Lisle Benet Academy, 6-2, 6-0.
Kowalke and Greene will face Alyssa Batcheler and Alice Mihas of Chicago Latin Friday at Buffalo Grove in quarterfinal action.
State tournament play will continue through Saturday throughout Chicagoland.
