EHS Claims Tennis Win, Newton Drops Match

Effingham put together a 5-4 victory over Casey-Westfield in high school tennis competition Monday.
The Hearts split singles victories with Casey-Westfield. Ben Donsbach captured the No. 1 spot by coming back for the win. He lost the opener 6-7 (11) before taking 7-6 (4), 10-4 victories to pull out the match.
Brennan Barr picked up No. 4 with a 6-2, 6-4 victory. Colby Heaton was the No. 6 winner, 6-4, 7-6 (4).
In doubles play, the Hearts captured the top two spots for the match win. Donsbach and Parker Siner won easily, 6-3, 6-3 at No. 1. Nate Linders and Barr combined at No. 2 to down their opponents 6-0, 6-1.

At Newton
Mattoon High School came calling and blanked Newton, 9-0 in action Monday.
Winning for the Green Wave in singles were Reese Bergstrom, Jacob Mathias, Lance Warfel, Josiah Morton, Tejas Zala and Alex Shumway.
The doubles matches went to Bergstrom-Coby Comstock, Pierce Farmer-Morton and Spencer Ferrar-Josh Ramage.
