EHS Finishes 11th At Tennis Invitational, St. A 1-2 In Duals

Effingham High School competed in the Troy Triad Boys Tennis Invitational Saturday and took 11th place against some tough teams.

 

The Hearts fell to Peoria Notre Dame, 4-1. The lone point for the Hearts came at No. 2 doubles as Nate Linders and Brennan Barr won, 6-2, 7-6 (2).

EHS then downed Jersey, 3-2. All three points came in doubles action. Ben Donsbach and Parker Siner won, 6-2, 6-1 while Linders and Barr took the second match, 6-1, 6-1. Colby Heaton and Lucas Hagler won, 6-1, 6-3.

Mascoutah then took a 3-2 win over Effingham. Donsbach and Siner won in doubles, 6-2, 6-2 while Linders and Barr claimed No. 2, 6-4, 6-3.

The Hearts then downed Triad, 3-2. Donsbach and Siner were winners, 6-0, 6-0 while Linders and Barr won 6-1, 6-0. Heaton and Hagler took a 6-2, 7-5 win.

At Olney

Effingham St. Anthony competed in three dual matches at Olney Friday.

The Bulldogs defeated Centralia, 6-3 then lost to Olney, 8-1 and Carbondale, 4-0.

Against Centralia, the Bulldogs claimed four singles matches as Michael Kaldas won at No. 2, 10-4; Henry Kemme claimed No. 4, 10-5; Hunter Stephens won at No. 5, 10-2 and Bryson Wall claimed No. 6, 10-5.

The Bulldogs won the No. 2 doubles contest as Stephens and Wall combined, 8-3 and took the No. 3 spot as Noah Tegeler and Kemme were 8-3 winners.

Olney claimed an 8-1 win over the Bulldogs. Stephens was the lone point at No. 5 singles with 6-4, 7-5 counts.

Carbondale then blanked St. Anthony, 4-0.

In Saturday competition at the Mattoon Invitational, St. Anthony finished 13th out of 15 teams. Mattoon won the championship.
