Serena Williams won her opening round match at the Australian Open, breezing to a win over Tatjana Maria in just 49 minutes. Maria Sharapova, Madison Keys, Karolina Pliskova, Caroline Wozniacki, Angelique Kerber, and Petra Kvitova also advanced, as did Kei Nishikori on the men’s side.

Murray Eliminated In First Round

Andy Murray was eliminated in the first round of the Australian Open in what may have been the final match of his career. Murray announced he was retiring due to a hip injury, but said he hoped to play at Wimbledon one last time, although he conceded his hip pain may prevent him from doing so.
