St. A Downs T-town, EHS Nabs Tennis Win

TEUTOPOLIS -- Effingham St. Anthony High School handed Teutopolis its first tennis loss of the season Tuesday.

The Bulldogs tallied a 7-2 win. It was a meeting of sisters at the No. 1 singles spot as St. Anthony's Emily Mossman faced T-town's Diana Mossman. E. Mossman came out the winner with a 6-1, 6-2 count. The pair met again in doubles play with E. Mossman again coming out the winner.

Alli Brumleve won at No. 2 singles, 6-1, 6-1. Other Bulldog wins in singles were Catherine Willenborg at No. 4, 6-4, 6-4, Caroline Deters at No. 5, 3-6, 6-2, 6-3 and Jessica Cook captured the final spot, 6-3, 6-3.

T-town's Julia Hardiek took the No. 3 spot, 6-4, 6-3.

In doubles play, St. Anthony sandwiched No. 1 and No. 3 wins around T-town's No. 2 victory. Kowalke and Greene combined for a 6-3, 6-2 win at the top spot. E. Mossman and Cook won 6-0, 6-3 at No. 3.

The Wooden Shoes' Hardiek and Nicole Deters won 6-2, 6-4.

T-town drops to 11-1 on the season.

"It was a hard fought match," said St. Anthony Coach Darlene Esker. "It was much more competitive than the score shows. This was a match with two great teams."

At Teutopolis

Singles

No. 1 -- Emilee Mossman (SA) defeated Diana Mossman (TT), 6-1, 6-2

No. 2 -- Allison Kowalke (SA) defeated Alli Brumleve (TT), 6-1, 6-1

No. 3 -- Julia Hardiek (TT) defeated Averee Greene (SA), 6-4, 6-3

No. 4 -- Catherine Willenborg (SA) defeated Macy Probst (TT), 6-4, 6-4

No. 5 -- Caroline Deters (SA) defeated Nicole Deters (TT), 3-6, 6-2, 6-3

No. 6 -- Jessica Cook (SA) defeated Logan Blankenship (TT), 6-3, 6-3

Doubles

No. 1 -- Kowalke-Greene (SA) defeated Brumleve-Probst (TT), 6-3, 6-2

No. 2 -- Hardiek-Deters (TT) defeated Allie Dasenbrock-Willenborg (SA), 6-2, 6-4

No. 3 -- E. Mossman-Cook (SA) defeated D. Mossman-Isabelle Hemmen (TT), 6-0, 6-3

 

At Greenville

Effingham easily handled Greenville by a 9-0 count in tennis competition Tuesday.

The Hearts took the doubles victories as Chloe Funneman and Lauryn Douthit went 6-1, 6-0 at No. 1. Skyler Schafer and Caroline Kull took the second match, 6-0, 6-0. Riley Arend and Lydia Kull finished out with a 6-2, 6-1 victory.

In singles, Funneman won the No. 1 spot, 6-3, 6-0. Douthit blanked her opponent, 6-0, 6-0. Schafer won 6-1, 6-1. Arend tallied 6-4, 6-1 victories. C. Kull was a 6-2, 6-1 winner and Riley Seachrist rounded out the singles with a 6-3, 6-2 win.

At Greenville
