St. Anthony Third at Purple Gold Tennis Meet

BLOOMINGTON -- Effingham St. Anthony High School captured third place at the Bloomington Purple Gold Tennis Tournament during the weekend.

Winning was Normal University High with 50 points followed by Bloomington Central Catholic 48 and St. Anthony 47 in the top three.

Allison Kowalke and Averee Green finished fourth at the No. 1 doubles spot. The pair downed Hanson/Ayers of Bloomington, 6-3, 6-1. They fell to Satoris/Hundman of Bloomington Central Catholic, 2-6, 7-6(3), 10-6, then lost to Ellis/Houpt of Danville and Walls/Sudhir of Normal Community.

In the No. 2 doubles, Allie Dasenbrock and Catherine Willenborg also claimed fourth place.The pair won over Goodlick/Vose of Bloomington Central Catholic, 6-4, 6-1. The duo then lost to Singh/Xu of Centennial, 6-7(5), 6-2, 10-7 then fell to Hindesai/Shim of Normal Community.

The No. 3 doubles team of Emilee Mossman and Jessica Cook took second place. The pair won o er Silva/Stan of Hersey, 6-2, 6-2 and then downed Gustafson/Keys of Moline. The pair lost the title match to Resvito/Lee of Bloomington Central Catholic, 7-5, 3-6, 10-8.

In singles play, Emilee Mossman took second at the top spot. Mossman won over Natalie Pait of Judah Christian, 6-1, 6-0 then won her next match, 6-1, 6-0. She downed Lauren Ellis of Danville, 6-0, 6-0 before dropping the title match to McKenna Schaefbauer of U-High.

In the No. 2 singles spot, Allison Kowalke won over Angelu Xu of Centenial, 6-3, 6-1, lost to Sydney Hemenway of Hersey, 6-3, 6-4. She won two more matches to finish tied for fifth.

Averee Green competed in the No. 2 singles spot and defeated Sara Hwange of Hersey, 6-3, 6-3. She then lost to Charlie Satoris of Bloomington Central Catholic, 5-7, 6-1, 10- before dropping a match to Laila Lond of Homewood  Flossmore, 7-5, 5-7, 10-4 to take fourth.

Catherine Willenborg defeated Kiki Frost of Springfield, 6-1, 6-0 then downed Taylor Hall of Hersey, 0-6, 7-6(4), 10-8 at No. 4. She lost to Kristi Kandury of U-High and fell to Kristin Vose of Bloomington Central Catholic, 6-4, 6-2.

Caroline Deters lost the first two rounds at the No. 5 singles spot.

Jessica Cook captured first place in the No. 6 singles. Cook defeated Sterling Tunget of LaSalle Peru, 6-1, 6-1 before beating Kayla Seck of Sacred Heart-Griffin, 6-1, 6-3. She won over Lily Kanski of Bloomington C.C., 6-1, 6-1 and defeated Maggie Kraft of U-High.
