EHS, T-town Capture Tennis Wins

Effingham High School downed Salem 8-1 in girls tennis competition Monday.

The Hearts picked up five of the six singles matches. Chloe Funneman won at the top spot by an 8-1 count. Lauryn Douthit blanked her opponent at No. 2, 8-0. Skyler Schafer won 8-5 at No. 3 while Caroilne Kull took No. 5 with an 8-1 score and Riley Seachrist nabbed an 8-3 victory at No. 6.

In doubles, the Hearts swept. Funneman and Douthit were 8-2 winners while Schafer and C. Kull won 8-1. Arend and Lydia Kull took the final spot, 8-3.

At Salem

Singles

No. 1 -- Chloe Funneman (E) defeated Katelyn Wilson (S), 8-1

No. 2 -- Lauryn Douthit (E) defeated Kaitlin Nix (S), 8-0

No. 3 -- Skyler Schafer (E) defeated Grace Purcell (S), 8-5

No. 4 -- Alishba Zahoor (S) defeated Riley Arend (E), 9-7

No. 5 -- Caroline Kull (E) defeated Kaitlyn Banning (S), 8-1

No. 6 -- Riley Seachrist (E) defeated Katie Lerra (S), 8-3

Doubles

No. 1 -- Funneman-Douthit (E) defeated Wilson-Nix (S), 8-2

No. 2 -- Schafer-C. Kull (E) defeated Purcell-Shelbi Thomason (S), 8-1

No. 3 -- Arend-Lydia Kull (E) defeated Zahoor-Banning (S), 8-3

 

At Mattoon

Teutopolis improved its season record to 7-0 by blanking Mattoon 9-0 in tennis action Monday.

The Wooden Shoes easily claimed singles victories. Diana Mossman was a 6-4, 6-1 winner at No. 1 followed by Alli Brumleve 6-1, 6-0 at No. 2. Julia Hardiek also went 6-1, 6-0 while Macy Probst won 6-1, 6-1. Nicole Deters picked up 6-3, 6-2 victories. Logan Blankenship was a winner 6-1, 6-0.

In doubles play, Brumleve and Probst combined to win 6-2, 6-2 at No. 1. Hardiek and Deters went 6-1, 6-1 while Mossman and Isabell Hemmen took the final spot, 6-4, 7-5.

At Mattoon
