Teutopolis Defeats Effingham 8-1 in Girls Action Thursday

Teutopolis defeated Effingham 8-1 in girls tennis action Thursday.

Diana Mossman beat Chloe Funneman in #1 singles 7-6, 7-6; Alli Brumleve beat Lauryn Douthit in #2 singles 6-1, 6-2; Julia Hardiek downed Skyler Schafer 6-1, 6-7, 10-6 in #3 singles; Macy Probst beat Riley Arend 6-2, 6-2 in #4 singles; and Nicole Deters defeated Caroline Kull 6-1, 7-6 in #5 singles.

Effingham's win came in #6 singles where Riley Seachrist defeated Logan Blankenship 6-4, 2-6, 10-8.

In doubles, Brumleve and Probst defeated Funneman and Douthit 6-4, 6-1 in #1s; Hardiek and Deters defeated Schafer and Kull 6-1, 6-1 in #2s; and Blankenship and Isabelle Hemmen defeated Arend and Kull 6-2, 4-6, 11-9 in #3s.

Teutopolis is now 4-0 on the season.

Teutopolis Coach Kaye Kimpling was pleased with the win over what she termed "a very good tennis team". Effingham Coach Erik Williamson said, "All around great match between both teams. So many competitive matches at every level, even in junior varsity. Awesome tennis. The girls always want to play Teutopolis tough, and with so many close matches they showed amazing grit and determination. Looking forward to a chance to meet them again at the Mattoon Invite this weekend if weather allows, and then I'm sure we will meet at Sectionals, too."

In the JV matches, T-Town's Kelly Neihls and Grace Schumacher defeated Clare Waymoth and Abby Kyle 8-5; Teutopolis' Elizabeth Will and Maria Vahling defeated Effingham's Eden Wendling and Josephine Lowmette 8-4; Teutopolis' Madalyn Stead and Molly Niemerg defeated Cassady Stanfield and Lauren Pierson 8-3; Teutopolis' Grace Hoene and Lexi Will defeated Chloe Aden and Jackeline Garcia 8-1; Effingham's Ariel Rubin and Josephine Loumette defeated Micah McWhorter and Keila Newlin 8-7; and Teutopolis' Lauren Blackwell and Teja Hickenbottom defeated Eden Wendling and Cassidy Stanfield 8-1.
