Effingham Defeats Charleston in Apollo Action; St. Anthony Wins Tough Match Over Olney

Effingham posted a convincing 8-1 win over Charleston in Apollo Conference girls tennis action Tuesday.

Chloe Funneman won the #1 singles 5-7, 6-4, 11-9 over Rachel Thomas of Charleston.

The Hearts' Lauryn Douthit won the #2 singles 6-2, 6-1 over Bernie Jackson.

Effingham's Skyler Schafer won the #3 singles 6-4, 6-1 over Alexis Oertwig.

Effingham's only loss was in #4 singles, where Riley Arend fell to Evie Rudibaugh 5-7, 4-6.

Caroline Kull won the #5 singles for the Hearts over Maleah Hackett 3-6, 6-0, 10-6.

Riley Seachrist captured the #6 singles over Charleston's Abby Geisler 6-2, 6-1.

Effingham swept the doubles; Funneman and Douthit over Jackson and Thomas 6-0, 6-2 in the #1s; Schafer and Kull over Rudibaugh and Hackett 6-4, 6-2 in the #2s; and Arend and Lydia Kull over Hackett and Brylie Taylor-Lutz 6-1, 6-4 in the #3s. 

In exhibition matches, Josephine Louwette and Eden Wendling won 8-2; Chloe Aden won 5-2; Jackeline Garcia and Clare Waymoth lost 4-6; Ariel Rubin and Abby Kyle won 8-1; Lauren Pierson won 8-5; and Cassidy Stanfield won 5-0.

In a long close match, St. Anthony defeated Olney Richland County 5-4 Tuesday.

Emilee Mossman won the #1 singles 6-0, 6-1 over Logan Kauble. Olney's Zoe Alexander won the #2 singles over Allison Kowalke 7-6, 4-6, 2-6. The Bulldogs' Averee Greene won the #3 singles over Riley Doll 6-0, 6-3; Olney's Cait O'Dell won the #4 singles over Catherine Willenborg 6-2, 5-7, 2-6; Olney's Paige Steder won over Caroline Deters in the #5 singles 1-6, 0-6; and St. Anthony's Jessica Cook won over Carmen Rodriguez in the #6 singles 6-2, 6-1.

St. Anthony's Kowalke and Greene won the #1 doubles 6-0, 7-5 over Kauble and Doll; the Bulldogs' Alli Adams and Willenborg won the #2 doubles 4-6, 6-4, 6-4 over Alexander and Steder; and Olney's O'Dell and Rodriguez downed Deters and Roepke in the #3 doubles 2-6, 2-6.

Olney won the JV match 8-0.
