EHS, Teutopolis Both Win at Edwardsville Event; SAHS Gets Second at Central Illinois Invite

Effingham High School and Teutopolis both won at the Heather Bradshaw Memorial Tournament hosted by Edwardsville High School.

EHS was the champion of the Futures Flight, going 4-0 over Friday and Saturday.

On Friday, Effingham defeated Alton 9-0 and then Notre Dame St. Louis 8-1. On Saturday morning, the girls defeated Mascoutah 9-0 and then beat Waterloo 8-1 for the championship.

Here are the individual results:

#1 singles--Chloe Funneman went 4-0

#2 singles--Lauryn Douthit went 4-0

#3 singles--Skyler Schafer went 4-0

#4 singles--Riley Arend went 3-1

#5 singles--Caroline Kull went 4-0

#6 singles--Riley Seachrist went 4-0

The #1 doubles teams went 4-0, the #2 doubles teams went 3-1, and the #3 doubles teams went 4-0. The doubles lineups varied each match.

Effingham has a busy week ahead, hosting Charleston today and Teutopolis on Thursday, then competing in the Mattoon Invitational on Saturday.

Teutopolis came in first in the 15-field Challenger Draw at the tourney.

Teutopolis won over O'Fallon #2 9-0 with Diana Mossman, Julia Hardiek, Alli Brumleve, Macy Probst, Nicole Deters and Logan Blankenship sweeping the singles and Brumleve/Probst, Deters/Isabelle Hemmen, and Blankenship/Hardiek taking the doubles.

Teutopolis beat Belleville East #2 7-2 with Mossman winning the #1 singles, Brumleve winning the #3 singles, Probst winning the #4 singles, Deters winning the #5 singles, and Blankenship winning the #6 singles, Brumleve/Probst winning the #1 doubles, and Blankenship and Hardiek winning the #3 doubles.

Teutopolis defeated Edwardsville #2 7-2 in the semifinals. Mersman won the #1 singles, Brumleve won the #2 singles, Hardiek won the #3 singles, Probst won the #4 singles, Brumleve/Probst won the #1 doubles, Deters/Hardiek won the #2 doubles, and Blankenship/Hemmen won the #3 doubles.

Teutopolis won the championship with an 8-1 victory over St. Joseph's Academy of St. Louis. Mossman won the #1 singles 6-3, 7-5; Brumleve won the #2 singles 2-6, 6-2, 10-2; Hardiek won the #3 singles 6-2, 6-1; Probst won the #4 singles 6-4, 6-0; Deters won the #5 singles 1-6, 6-2, 10-4; Blankenship won the #6 singles 6-2, 6-3; and Blankenship/Hemmen won the #3 doubles 8-4. 

Teutopolis Coach Kaye Kimpling said, "In my 20 years of coaching Teutopolis girls at the tournament, we have made the semis several times, but have never been in the finals. This year, we were not only in it, but we won it!"

St. Anthony finished second in the Central Illinois Invitational over the weekend.

St. Anthony finished one point behind the champion Bloomington Central Catholic.

Here are the team scores: BCC 34, St. Anthony 33, Alton 32, Niles North 1 28-1/2, Quincy Notre Dame 19, Sacred Heart-Griffin 17-1/2, Rochester 15, Niles North 2 10, Lincoln 7-1/2, Chatham Glenwood 7-1/2, St. Anthony 2 4, Jacksonville 3, Greenville 0.

#1 singles--Emilee Mossman finished first with three wins

#2 singles--Caroline Deters finished fourth with two wins and two losses

#3 singles--Jessica Cook finished third with three wins

#1 doubles--Allison Kowalke and Avaree Greene finished second with three wins and one loss

#2 doubles--Allie Dasenbrock and Catherine Willenborg finished third with two wins and one loss

On the St. Anthony #2 team, Hannah Buenker got a win and Payton Sehy won twice
