Bulldogs Finish Sixth as Team at State Tennis Finals

Effingham St. Anthony High School captured sixth place as a team at the Class 1A State Tennis Tournament Saturday.
St. Anthony's Emilee Mossman finished out with two losses Saturday.
Mossman picked up wins in the first, second and third rounds Thursday and Friday before dropping a loss to Sarah Hackman of Wauconda 6-3, 6-0 in the quarterfinals and then exiting the tournament with a defeat at the hands of Haley Fakouri of Oak Park Fenwick, 6-4, 6-3 in the consolation quarterfinals.
The Bulldogs doubles team of Allison Kowalke and Claire Wortman nabbed three straight victories in first, second and third round play before suffering a loss to Abygale Ahn and Cassandra Lee of Elmhurst Timothy Christian 6-0, 6-1.
The duo then picked up a victory over Kasey Jennings and Sonae Shelton of Flora, 6-4, 6-2 in the consolation quarterfinals. The pair fell to Olivia Melichar and Mary Nester of Belleville Althoff Catholic 6-3, 6-4 in the consolation semifinals.
