T-town Ties for Third in Tourney, St. A Blanks Olney

CASEY -- Teutopolis High School tied for third place with Newton in the Casey-Westfield Doubles Tennis Tournament Saturday.

Winning the meet was Flora with 139 points followed by Mount Zion 116, Teutopolis 115, Newton 115, Robinson 100, Paris 83, Casey-Westfield 63 and Charleston 53.

Molly Niemerg and Maria Vahling finished second in the No. 4 doubles, scoring 33 points. Alli Brumleve and Julia Hardiek took third in the No. 1 doubles with 28 points.

Diana Mossman and Nicole Deters finished fourth at No. 2 doubles and Logan Blankenship and Elizabeth Will were sixth at No. 3.

At St. Anthony

Effingham St. Anthony blanked Olney 9-0 in action Saturday.

Picking up singles wins were Emilee Mossman, Claire Wortman, Allison Kowalke, Catherine Willenborg, Megan Hodge and Averee Greene.

In doubles play, Wortman and Kowalke combined to win 6-1, 6-1 while Maryann Saba and Hodge were 6-0, 6-3 winners. Mossman and Willenborg took the final match 6-1, 6-3.

"Olney has a strong, young team," said St. Anthony Coach Darlene Esker. "All the matches were very competitive."

St. Anthony also claimed the junior varsity match, 6-0.
