EHS, St. Anthony Claim Tennis Victories

Effingham High School blanked Vandalia in girls tennis competition Tuesday, 8-0.
Chloe Funneman went 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 singles while Lauryn Douthit took the next match 6-0, 6-2. Skyler Schafer won 6-1, 6-0, Caroline Kull 6-4, 6-1, Taylor Boyle 6-0, 6-3 and Riley Arend 6-0, 6-4.
Only two doubles matches were contested as the third one was rained out. Funneman and Douthit blanked their opponents 6-0, 6-0. Schafer and Kull took the No. 2 spot, 6-1, 6-1.

At Paris
St. Anthony traveled to Paris and blanked the Tigers 9-0 Tuesday.
The Bulldogs Emilee Mossman was a 6-0, 6-1 winner while Claire Wortman won 6-1, 6-1. Alison Kowalke had a 6-1, 6-0 count. Catherine Willenborg and Megan Hodge blanked their opponents 6-0, 6-0. Averee Greene was a 6-3, 6-0 winner.
In doubles action, Wortman and Kowalke combined at No. 1 to win 6-0, 6-1. Saba and Hodge went 6-1, 6-2. Mossman and Willenborg took the final match 6-0, 6-1.
"I'm glad we got the match in," said St. Anthony Coach Darlene Esker. "It sprinkled and we thought we might get rained out."
The Bulldogs also won the junior varsity match 8-1.
