St. A Takes Seventh, T-town 12th A Centennial Tennis Tourney

CHAMPAIGN -- Effingham St. Anthony finished seventh while Teutopolis was in a tie for 12th in the Champaign Centennial Girls Tennis Invitational Saturday.
Belleville East won with 28 points followed by Wheaton Warrenville South 23, O'Fallon 16.5, Warren Township 16, Lincoln-Way East 16, Belleville West 15.5, St. Anthony 13, The Latin School 12, Hinsdale South 11.5, Centennial 11, Danville 9.5, Teutopolis 5, Central 5, Conant 1, Galesburg 1 and Urbana 0.
St. Anthony's Emily Mossman captured third place at the No. 1 singles spot. Mossman won over a Chicago Latin player 6-2, 6-1 then downed a Danville player 6-3, 6-2. Mossman lost 6-0, 6-0 to Wheaton Warren South then finished out with a win over Belleville East to take third.
Claire Wortman and Allison Kowalke finished tied for fifth at No. 1 doubles while Megan Hodge and Maryann Saba also finished fifth at No. 2.
"This was a strong tournament for the start of the season," said St. Anthony Coach Darlene Esker. "The girls did great. We hope to build on this tournament as we continue our season."
T-town finished tied for 12th in the meet.
"The girls played well against some big Chicago area schools," said T-town Coach Kaye Kimpling. "We got some pretty tough draws but stood up well to them."
