Teutopolis Claims Tennis Sectional Championship

CASEY -- Teutopolis High School captured the championship of the Casey-Westfield Tennis Sectional Monday.

The Wooden Shoes tallied 29 points followed by Paris 16, Casey-Westfield 16, Robinson 14, Mattoon 10, Charleston 8, Effingham 8, Newton 8, Olney 8, Effingham St. Anthony 0 and Shelbyville 0.

T-town will be sending Kyele Mossman and Joseph Esker to state in singles play and Noah Pals and Alex Probst in doubles action. They are the lone area tennis athletes headed to the State Tournament which begins Thursday and runs through Saturday.

Mossman downed Emeric Messado (Shelbyville), 6-0, 6-0 then won over Jacob Brown (Casey-Westfield), 6-0, 6-0. Mossman defeated Jacob Randolph (Paris), 6-0, 6-0 in the singles semifinals while Jacob Graham (Paris) downed T-town's Joseph Esker 6-2, 6-3.

Esker defeated Coby Comstock (Mattoon), 6-1, 6-3 and Cameron Ireland (Robinson), 6-0, 6-4 before the semifinals.

In the finals, Mossman beat Graham, 6-3, 6-3 to nab first while Esker beat Randolph, 6-1, 6-1 to finish third. Those four players advance.

In doubles, Pals and Probst beat Jones and Borntrager (Mattoon), 6-2, 6-1 and Matt Linders and Nick Katz (Effingham), 6-0, 6-2. They then downed Blaze Taylor-Lutz and Keegan Gowin of Charleston, 6-4, 0-6, 6-0. Casey-Westfield's Christian Cochnour/Patrick Hacker won over Quinn Camfield/Reese Bergstrom of Mattoon, 6-1, 6-3.

In the finals, Pals and Probst won over Cochonour/Hackler, 6-3, 6-4 for first place. Lutz/Gowin downed Camfield/Bergstrom, 6-4, 6-3 for third place. Those four doubles teams advance.
