EHS Drops Match to Robinson, T-town Beats Newton

ROBINSON -- Effingham High School traveled to Robinson and dropped an 8-4 tennis match Thursday.
EHS scored three of its points in singles play. Lauryn Douthit won at No. 2, 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 while Skyler Schafer took the No. 4 contest, 6-1, 7-6(4). Shania Cornell went 7-5, 6-4 at No. 5.
In doubles play, the Hearts captured the top match as Chloe Funneman and Douthit combined to win 6-3, 6-2.

At Teutopolis
Teutopolis picked up another victory, this one over Newton, 8-1 in action Thursday.
Newton's lone victory came at the No. 1 singles as Jacelyn Street won 6-4, 2-6, 6-2.
T-town's Lauren Hemmen won at No. 2, 6-1, 6-3 while Audra Breer took the third match, going 6-1, 7-6(4). Julia Hardiek blanked her opponent 6-0 in the opener then came back with a 6-2 win for the match. Alli Brumleve also went 6-0 in the opener then won 6-1. Nicole Deters took the final singles match 6-2, 6-1.
In doubles play, the Wooden Shoes swept. Hemmen and Brumleve won 4-6, 6-2, 6-2 while Christa Schwinke and Breer were 6-2, 6-1 winners. Brumleve and Diana Mossman combined to win 6-3, 6-0.
T-town is now 11-2 on the season.
