Mt. Zion Edges Effingham 5-4; TTown Shuts Out Centralia

Mt. Zion won a 5-4 decision over Effingham in a tough Apollo Conference battle Friday.

Effingham won the #1 and #2 singles. Jared Minor defeated Andy Hinch 6-2, 6-4 to win the #1 singles, while Aaron Conley defeated Nick Laramee 6-0, 6-2 in the #2 singles. Ashton Haythorne won the #4 singles match, 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 over Adrienne Jelasco. However, Drake Hill lost in the #3 singles match, 3-6, 3-6 to Rafael Santos, Nick Katz lost 0-6, 0-6 to Tristan Balgemann in the #5 singles, and Kaleb Blake lost 1-6, 0-6 to Peter Brandom in the #6 singles match.

Effingham's other win came in the #2 doubles, where Aaron Conley and Ashton Haythorne defeated Adrienne Jelasco and Peter Brandom 6-4, 3-6, 6-3. Jared Minor and Drake Hill lost 5-7, 3-6 to Andy Hinch and Joe Demirjian in the #1 doubles, and Nick Katz and Kaleb Blake lost 0-6, 0-6 to Nick Laramee and Rafael Santos in the #3 doubles.

The loss drops the tennis Hearts to 6-2 on the spring.

TEUTOPOLIS 9, CENTRALIA 0

The Shoes rolled to the win, pushing their season mark to 9-1.

Andy Mersman defeated Colton Albers 6-1, 6-1 to win the #1 singles; Trevor Lee downed Eli Dobbs 6-0, 6-1 to win the #2 singles; Kyele Mossman defeated Logan Lauder 6-0, 6-1 to take the #3 singles match; Jacob Mette blanked Stephen Bates 6-0, 6-0 to win the #4 singles; Noah Pals captured the #5 singles 6-4, 6-3 over Brayden Eringer; and Joseph Esker downed Gavin Cass 2-6, 6-0, 6-4 to win the #6 singles.

Trevor Lee and Jacob Mette won the #1 doubles 10-0 over Logan Lauder and Stephen Bates; Noah Pals and Alex Probst downed Colton Albers and Ethan Burrus 10-5 to win the #2 doubles, and Joseph Esker and Alex Meinhart beat Brayden Eringer and Gavin Cass 10-2 to win the #3 doubles.
