CHARLESTON -- Teutopolis High School edged Charleston 5-4 Thursday. The Shoes captured only two singles matches but came on strong in doubles play to sweep.
Allison Vogt picked up the No. 3 singles victory, winning 6-1, 6-1 while teammate Megan Miller won at No. 5, 6-0, 6-0.
In doubles play, Vogt and Cheyenne Lueken combined at No. 1 to win 6-3. Miller and Morgan Drees were 6-2 winners at No. 2 and Kaitlin Deters and Ashley Hemmen won 8-6 in the final spot.
"Charleston surprised us this evening and we had a real match on our hands," said Coach Kaye Kimpling. "We finished singles down 2-4 and had to win all the doubles to win the match. As the daylight was fading on their unlighted courts, the girls really stepped up and played some awesome doubles to secure the win."
T-town remained undefeated with a 9-0 record. The Shoes will be back in action Tuesday hosting St. Anthony.
