St. A, T-town Claim Tennis Wins, EHS Falls

Effingham St. Anthony High School played host to Mount Zion and claimed an 8-1 victory Thursday evening.

The Bulldogs picked up five of the six singles wins as Kelly Rentfrow, Megan Hodge, Mary Claire Wegman, Mary Ann Saba and Madison McWhorter won.

In doubles play, Rentfrow and Wegman won 6-0, 6-1. McWhorter and Kristin Slaughter were winners 6-0, 6-3. Claire Wortman and Hodge combined to win 6-0, 6-2.

At Effingham

No. 1 -- Mara Lebo (MZ) defeated Claire Wortman (SA), 1-6, 6-0, 10-2

No. 2 -- Kelly Rentfrow (SA) defeated Paige Willer (MZ), 6-4, 7-6(3)

No. 3 -- Megan Hodge (SA) defeated Alena Hinch (MZ), 6-3,l 6-4

No. 4 -- Mary Claire Wegman (SA) defeated Caroline Edgecombe (MZ), 6-4, 6-2

No. 5 -- Mary Anna Saba (SA) defeated Gabrielle Watson (MZ), 6-2, 6-1

No. 6 -- Madison McWhorter (SA) defeated Ariel Rhoades (MZ), 6-2, 6-1

No. 1 -- Rentfrow-Wegman (SA) defeated Lebo-Edgecombe (MZ), 6-0, 6-1

No. 2 -- McWhorter-Kristin Slaughter (SA) defeated Willer-Hinch (MZ), 6-0, 6-3

No. 3 -- Wortman-Hodge (SA) defeated Watson-Rhoades (MZ), 6-0, 6-2

 

At Olney

Olney nabbed seven victories to claim a 7-2 win over Effingham in action Thursday.

The Hearts lone two points came at the No. 5 singles as Lauryn Douthit won 6-2, 6-2 and at No. 3 doubles as Kyra Bannister and Skyler Schafer were winners, 6-3, 6-3.

At Teutopolis

Teutopolis blanked Vandalia 9-0 to improve to 9-0 on the season.

Kaitlin Deters, Christa Schwinke, Lauren Hemmen, Sidney Brumleve, Audra Breer and Julia Hardiek nabbed singles wins with the closest a 6-4, 6-3 match.

In doubles play, Schwinke and Hemmen combined at No. 1 while Brumleve and Breer were the No. 2 winners. Hardiek and Nicole Deters won at No. 3.
